We had a "Franken-tastic" time making our October bulletin board.

We are "Batty" about books.  We read the story, There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Bat.  Sequenced the story and made bat headbands.  Kinders just LOVE to make anything they can wear on their "Boo-tiful" heads!

Witches Rest Stop....Prop Up Your Brooms Here...and sing the song, Stirring Our Brew and 3 Little Witches, by Dr. Jean with your kiddos.  I bought some witch head pieces from the dollar tree, made broomsticks out of newspaper, and had a "fang-tastic" time acting out the song with my kiddos. 
 

 We also had Witches' Brew as a snack.  Some students even thought that the rat tails were REAL.  Rachelle Smith has a great freebie for making "Witches Brew"  Click {here} to check it out!

Our Kindergarten team is testing for PALS this week for the first time.  Wish us luck!  Off to finish our classroom HAUNTED HOUSE!  What else to do on a rainy day!!!

Monsterous Sight Words

We are going to be doing Monster Centers at the end of October.  Most of our math & reading activities are from Julie Lee's Monster Unit.  Click {here} to go to her blog and check them out!  My bestie, Miss Neuenschwander, sure comes up with the most creative centers for our little kiddos in kindergarten.  (She was meant to be in Kinderland!)  Here are some pictures of our sight word center ~ How Many Monsterous Sight Words in the Closet? 

The top closet is a picture of it shut.  I used a little piece of velcro to keep it closed.  The bottom closet is the closet open.  (I bet you are thinikng...no kidding!?! but for some reason I feel I should explain this picture.) We used the same sight word in the closet with different fonts.  We also used the word "the" as upper-case and lower-case. 

The students will open the closet door, write the sight word they see, count how many times it is written, and record their answer.

Hip Hip Hooray! Today is Candy Day!

Well...at least it is candy day for me!!!  I just love the month of October.  Here is a quick bulletin board idea I wanted to share for the month of October.  Do you have idea for a bulletin board title?  All I can think of is "All Wrapped Up in Kindergarten!"

How to Make a Spooky Mummy Face

• Cut a black square 12 * 12
• Tear strips of white paper - make sure to tear it the down the width (shorter) not the length (longer).  It does not tear very well if you tear it on the longer length!
• Punch out black and bright Halloween colors for the eyes.   
• Have the students cut the square into a circle and glue every thing together. 

Trick or Treat...Books are Neat!

I LOVE reading so many books during the month of October.  Don't you?  It is very hard when you have to choose which story to read...Witches, Ghosts, Bats...Oh My!  Here is a "reader response booklet" I made.  What do you think?

Kids LOVE their name!

I just love using the "The Name Game"...."The Banana Song"....or in our classroom...."The Name Song" in my classroom this time of the year.  The students want to read the "classroom~ made" book all the time.

I will keep changing the activities in each bucket though out the year.

This is from Mrs. Lee's I'm a Peacemaker Unit.  Check in out {here} .  I used Velcro dots behind each peacemaker ~ peacebreaker strip so I can use the chart each year.

I just smile every time I see this "welcome sign" when I walk into the classroom. 

My "Secret Password" Sign.  The students will whisper the secret password into my ear before entering the classroom in the morning.  I have used this the past 6 years and I LOVE IT.  The kiddos do, too!
