SHAKE OF THE DAY!

YIPPEE~YUPPEE you heard me right....we have "Shake of the Day" in kindergarten!
The special student of the day gets to shake the bucket when they arrive at school to see if he/she can make a CVC word.  If the student makes a CVC word we will share it with class, and he/she gets a packet of Smarties.   Because you know...if they eat Smarties they are going to be smarter!  HE HE HE

What are some other "Shake of the Day" ideas:
  • Shake all vowels
  • Shake 2 words that rhyme
  • Shake a picture and the letter of the beginning sound of that picture
  • Addition or Subtraction
  • 3 numbers in a row / example 4, 5, 6
  • 3 dots / 3 / three
Teaching Kindergarten is so much fun!

Falling for Rhyming Activities

We all know that recognition of rhyme is one of the first ways that a child demonstrates phonological awareness (an important part of literacy development).

Here is one of my favorite rhyming activities:

All the students get into a circle.  I throw the leaves (or snowballs) into the air.  The students each get to pick up one leaf and try to find their rhyming partner.  Then they lock arms together until everyone has found a partner that rhymes.

You can do this activity with letters, numbers, shapes, sight words, etc.  THEY LOVE IT!

Please comment your favorite rhyming activity!

Jeremiah was a bull frog...

Now that I have got you singing that song in your head...I am sharing a compound story book with you!

I attended (and presented) at the UW-Stout Early Childhood Conference.  One of the student teachers was sharing her book at one of the sessions.  I wish I could remember her name, but she gave me permission to take pictures of the book and make one for my classroom.  Now I am sharing with you!
