DAILY 5 RESOURCES IN ACTION

DAILY 5 ROCKED IN MY CLASSROOM TODAY OR SHOULD I SAY...MY KIDDOS ROCKED IT.  THIS POST IS SHARING THE RESOURCES THAT I USE AND WILL USE ALL YEAR LONG!
Read To Self  ~ My students can read from their book bucket, a themed story picture book, or from their poetry binders.

I teach a letter poem a day at the beginning of the year.  Kinder by Kim's Poetry Journals are easy to recite and read the alphabet poems the rest of the year.

Listen to Reading ~ The students will listen to a story that is assigned for the month.  Then he/she will complete a worksheet that corresponds with the story.

The books and response sheets that I will be using are from Deedee Wills Listen Up! Units.  I add 3 different response sheets at the center.  I love that they cover so many skills/concepts the kids are learning.

Work on Writing ~ Gotta have spaceman at your center!

Another great unit from Deedee Wills.  You should just go out and buy the complete set of Writing Work Stations.  What is GREAT...is that when I change it out each month the student know what to do because it is the same concepts...just corresponds with the themes of month!
Read with Partner ~ the students LOVE to read the room and books to each other.  Especially...if they are reading to the principal or the president too!

Meet with Teacher ~ First we practiced the importance of pointing to words while reading.

The activities above are from Julie Lee's Guided Reading for Kinders Part 1.  I was NOT going to buy this unit.  My son needs new mittens...but I couldn't help myself.  I am SO HAPPY that I did.  There are so many great resources to use with all the leveled groups you are working with.  I wish I could show you all that it contains...but you will just have to go and buy it for your classroom!  You won't regret it....trust me!!!

I use Reading A-Z to find level books that fit my students.  Look at them pointing while reading....THANKS JULIE LEE!

This mini writing activity is from Tara West's Step-by-Step-Guided-Reading-Plans.  Her units do a great job GUIDING you through a small group lesson with your kiddos.  I love the differentiation she incorporates with each week.

Sorry...I don't have any pictures but I use Caitlin Clabby's Word Work  each month.  She blogged about it HERE  at Kindergarten Smiles.

REALLY MISSING MY MOM TODAY.  I COULD ALMOST FEEL HOW PROUD SHE WAS OF ME TODAY FROM ABOVE...THAT I NEEDED TO SHARE WHAT IS WORKING IN MY CLASSROOM WITH YOU!

Daily 5, Freebie, Amazing Giveaway!

Bloggers....it's cold outside....here is a little something to warm you up!

This Daily 5 Freebie was created to help assist students and teachers implementing the Daily 5 routine into their classrooms.

Using these folders in your classroom is easy!

  • The students will carry their Daily 5 folders with them from round to round.
  • After the round is finished, the students will quickly clean up and place their work in the appropriate spot in their folder (unfinished or finished work).
  • The student will add a sticker to the round he/she was just working at on their “Daily 5 Check Chart” sheet and move onto their next round.
  • At times the teacher can leave positive comments on the students’ check sheet to reward their learning.

How Do I set up Daily 5 in my Classroom!?!
Read to Self

Here is our Reading Corner!!!
The students "Book Buckets" filled with sight word and leveled readers at his/her level!

"Poetry Binders" with all the poems we learn through out the year

After we read our Let's Find Out magazine I will keep two in our reading corner for enjoyment!

Work on Writing

I have been using Deedee's "Writing Work Stations" and just love them! What I like the most about them is that they are the same activities each month, but with different themed vocabulary cards.  Now my students will know what to do, they will know my expectations, and they will be able to complete this center independently all year long!

Read with Partners

The first bin holds reading tools, bins 2 - 5 hold leveled books (2 of each), and the last bin holds any little paper readers we have read in the classroom and have sent home.

Work on Words

I made a set of the themed vocabulary cards for each of the bins in my Work on Words center.  I added a different colored sticker to the back of each set....so they don't get mixed up!

We use Live, Love, Laugh in Kindergarten's Word Work Unit.  See examples below...

I have been using Tammy's "Word Work Stations" and just love them, too! What I like the most about them is that they are the same activities each month, but with different themed vocabulary cards.  Now my students will know what to do, they will know my expectations, and they will be able to complete this center independently all year long!  I know...I repeated myself...but it is true and it works!!!
