Superhero winners and Deanna Jump

Because this weekend was so SPECIAL, and there were 44 entries in our "Superhero Fluency" Unit Give-Away, we decided to award 4 lucky winners with our unit.  Thanks to all the wonderful bloggers who entered!

Another reason this weekend was so SPECIAL was because as board members of the Wisconsin Kindergarten Association (WKA), we were able to help organize a fabulous conference with 300 fellow educators on Saturday featuring the AMAZING Deanna Jump.  Yes!  WE were able to spend the evening and day with Deanna!  She is truly a genuine southern sweetheart!  The WKA presented Deanna with a Wisconsin Badger's sweatshirt to keep her warm on her journey back to Florida.

We walked away with many new ideas from Deanna.  She showed us a lot of great ideas for integrating Science into our Reading and Writing.  She also shared some super cute charts, graphs, manipulatives, and record sheet ideas during her presentation.  As soon as the conference was over, we ran to the first craft store we could find...MICHAELS....and bought Stems and Pony Beads to make our "Sounding Out Words" manipulative.

Thanks to Fuddruckers for not "kicking us out" and to the people that took interest in asking us WHAT we were doing!  Here is the photo-proof of us at Fuddruckers being teachery creative!  (Of course, this was taken after we ate our delicious sandwiches!)

THANKS again for entering our giveaway.  Winning bloggers below....check your e-mails soon for your FREE unit!  Enjoy!  Amber & LuAnn

Fluency Fun giveaway and a freebie!

As an educator, you play an important role in building confidence as your students are learning to read.  Fluency is an important component of reading instruction! Repeated reading has proven to be one of the best strategies for developing reading fluency.  Many times, due to time constraints, educators cannot “fit in” as many fluency activities as they would like to during their day. This is where our Superhero Fluency Unit will help support you!

(Many more fluency cards ~ Upper-case letters, shapes, numbers, count by 2's, 5's, 10's, etc.)
When do we use the “Superhero Fluency” Unit?  Well, first of all, we place the cards on a ring and store them in each students' book box.  Then the possibilities are endless, but here are just a few ways we have used them over the years. This unit can be utilized during...
  • Read To Self Time
  • Rest & Read Time
  • Quiet Time
  • Assessments
  • A classroom volunteer's visit

Kiss Your Brain & Freebie!

I love to sing the song, "Kiss Your Brain" by Dr. Jean...with my kiddos.  This year when I catch my students working extra hard on his/her work I will tell them to go and kiss their brain.  When they get 5 kisses on their brain...they get 3 real Hershey Kisses for their AMAZING effort!

The kisses are attached by Velcro dots.

The students can choose between "KISSES" or "HERSHEY KISSES"!

I made it into a classroom book.  Here is the cover.

Other Ideas...
Have you heard of  The Polka Dot Patch !?!  I believe she can make this 'SWEET" thing for you!  I would probably eat everyone of those kisses myself...while planning for my kiddos!  It just even makes them look yummier!!!

After singing "Dr. Jean’s Kiss Your Brain" song, Vanessa Levin of Carrollton Texas makes this darling class~made book. A wonderful way to greet your children each morning!
