Project based learning begins with great theme ideas and every year it gets tweaked to meet that group's needs. I would love to have aome resources in hand so my time can be spent 'tweaking' and teaching versus looking for resources and where to even begin! Ahoggan@hcps.us

  28. Like some of the others have said- yes I do use themes- some are built around a book like "The Mitten" or Brown Bear Brown Bear or Pete the Cat or Don't let the Pigeon Ride the Bus. I also use literature to support broader themes- like the seasons or holiday themes like Valentine's, Halloween and Christmas. Themes can go in lots of different ways and can be expanded using story. I have been a kindergarten teacher for a long time now and still love themes to help organize my thoughts and my plans. You can explore multiple ideas and go deeper with some topics using themes.

Oftentimes, the little ones are engaged in the math, literacy, art, science/health and social studies activities that are carefully planned by me. Nowadays, with teacher stores like tpt, I have a vast array of original products to select from to help supplement as well as design my centers.

  73. Themes make it so easy to organize centers and learning. The curriculum in the required books can be a little dry. When you add some fun in to the kids learning, they seem we all seem to forget about the standards and just learn with ease. I still have to use the required items, but I love having fun with the themes. The items I use of from TPT are a great way to help the children have learn with a little twist.
