Hide the 4 sheep around the room.  The students will search for a sheep and tell the teacher what letter is on it.  This would be a great opportunity to use positional words, if a student is having trouble finding his/her sheep.   Click {here}  for a copy of the sheep. 

The students will draw cards with letters on them.  Say the letter and letter sound and then dab the letter around the clock until all of the letters are marked.  Click {right here}  for the ABC CLOCK.  Click {right here}  for the NUMBER CLOCK.

The students will write a color word on the line and draw a colored spider coming down to scare Little Miss Muffet,  Click {right here now} for a copy of the booklet.

I "Deerly" Love This Time of Year!

'Tis the season to make a fact list in "book style"!  I read a non-fiction story about reindeers and we brainstormed things we knew about reindeer.  During academic free-choice a couple of my students made this reindeer book together.  Then when it was shared writing time, each student wrote a fact about reindeers in our book.  The book will stay in the classroom for students to keep reading.

As you can see we have not had the lesson yet on the word "I" is ALWAYS capitalized in a sentence.  I just think their kid~writing is so cute & great for kindergarten!!!

I watched this movie with my dad this weekend.  He had knee surgery and I am home taking care of him.  We  had some good laughs during this movie!  OLDIE but GOODIE!

I think this is the only place I eat that I DON'T change something about the item I ordered.  The sad thing is ....this summer  the restaurant in our area closed.

I would have one EVERY morning if I could!  Double Yummy!!!

I will be getting a pair of these from Mall of America this weekend for my birthday.                                               I hope I find a fun pair I like!

"Shake of the Day" Post.  Click {here} here to go to it! 

In Wisconsin....when you visit a tavern they have this thing called, Shake of the Day.  You pay a dollar and shake a jar with 6 dice in it once.  If you shake all of the same numbered dice up in the jar you win 1/2 of the pot.  Oh...what fun...especially if you win!  The students get just as much joy shaking a real word they can read!      

5. Best accomplishment:

In November I presented at the SDE I Teach K  Conference in  Indy.  What a great experience with my aMaZInG friend, LuAnn.  I will never forget it!!!

Bubble Gum....Bubble Gum

We all have stretched out words in our classroom using a yo-yo, rubber band, slinky, or a fun stretchy toy.  During RtI this week, we are working on S-T-R-E-T-C-H-I-N-G OUT WORDS with REAL bubblegum!  From the Pond Blog has a great unit called, "Stretch it OUT like Bubblegum".

During my RtI group time, I have 3 students come up to the front of the room and chew their bubblegum until it is soft and stretchy.   When we stretch out the words, the 3 students slowly stretch their bubblegum so it does not break; the rest of the class makes the sounds out loud for each sound in the word, as I write the sounds on the board.  Our lesson could have lasted an hour and I would have not lost their attention.

My RtI group thought this was just the greatest thing ever!  The excitement on their faces during the lesson was priceless, and they cannot wait until it is their turn to stretch out the word with bubble gum.  I also have heard of using silly putty, instead of icky sticky bubble gum!
