TSW...pick a snowball with a picture on it and hang it on the first mitten. Then the students will build the word by putting a snowball letter on each mitten. I have Velcro on the mittens and snowballs to stick together!
Click on the word "Mitten Fun" for a copy! Sorry...does not include mittens!
~Mitten Fun~
Clip art is from DJ Inkers and Unknown!
Question for my “Smartie” bloggers…Would you use words like tiger, shark, or truck for this activity? If the students sound out the word it will not be spelled correctly, but I am sure that my students who came into kindergarten reading would be able to hear all the sounds in the words. I feel like such a “Dum ~ Dum” sometimes…but I really want your opinion. Thank You!
( I tried to be all Smartie & Dum~Dum clip art and it would not work.)

Love this idea as I'm just getting ready to put my winter/mitten stuff together. For the kids who already read, maybe having some sort of identifier for the level of words. Simple word on blue mitten, harder words on red. Just so you don't have the kiddos who really depend on sound outs trying to spell shark.
ReplyDeleteLove this idea, but I think I will color-code the snowballs that have pictures on them. Then the students can pick "blue" snowballs for CVC words or "red" snowballs for more difficult words. What do you think?
ReplyDeleteNow I WISH I remembered where I put the mittens I bought at School House in GB. I can't find my mittens - perhaps I will cry..... LuAnn :-)
How did you stick your snowballs on the mittens? They almost look 3-d or like they are popped out on the mitten. I was wondering if it was velcro or magnets maybe. I love your blog!

Just nominated you for an award. Check it out on my blog. Love all your ideas and crafts, too cute!
ReplyDeleteYes...Desiree...I used velcro. The mittens are permanent on the line and the students can take~on/take~off the snowballs. Thanks!
