Dinosaurs & Green Screen

I had so much fun introducing our next theme....DINOSAURS. 
I took my students picture in front of a green screen.  They had to look very scared and they had no idea why.  You should have seen the look on their faces when I showed them the finished product. 

My son, Cayden, was my practice piece.  MAKES ME SMILE! 

 Then, I introduced words that would catch the readers attention "Nooo! ~ Heeelp! ~ Awww!" to the students and right to work they went...writing about dinosaurs.  We did have a little discussion about NOT writing that the dinosaur is going to eat them!  HA!

Word Sliders For Kids

One of our FAVORITE "GO TO" activities is

"Word Detective Sliders".  Students ENJOY participating in the activity each time.  We BELIEVE our students have become really GOOD at sounding out words because of this ENGAGING activity.

Seussville Fun!

I so badly wanted to do a "Dr. Seuss" room transformation/classroom flip.  

Thing 1 & 2, Sneetches, Grinch, Sam-I-Am, Horton, The Fox, The Lorax, Yertle the Turtle, Cat  in the Hat, etc.
Each part of our classroom could come alive with a

Dr. Seuss book. 

Did not happen....this year! WINK~WINK

I have another great idea for a classroom flip...but you will have to wait & see.

The Mitten Retell

I have always enjoyed acting out the story, The Mitten.  During the week we read, The Mitten, many times.  On Friday, the students really get into the story by acting like the animal and squeezing into the mitten.  Yes....all my students that have a headband can fit in the mitten at once! We use the song pictured below to act out the story together.

 

The students need to take off their shoes before they can crawl in and listen to the story quietly.  They sure like to giggle in there...but isn't that what makes learning fun!  I made the mitten out of 2 white sheets and sewed them together.  I used headbands make each animal.  See all the fun happening below!
